Kacha Chanar Sondesh

Kacha chanar sondesh, meaning raw chhana sweet, is the purest form of sondesh in Bengali confectionery. Unlike cooked varieties, the chhana is barely heated, preserving its fresh, milky flavour and soft, grainy texture. This is the oldest style of sondesh, dating back centuries before sugar was widely available in Bengal, when jaggery or date palm gur was the only sweetener. At Noni Sweets, we make it with same-morning chhana from full-cream cow's milk, lightly sweetened with sugar and kneaded just enough to hold shape. Each cube is hand-pressed and topped with slivered almond and pistachio. The minimal processing means the quality of milk matters more here than in any other sweet. There are no spices, no fillings, no coatings to hide behind. Kacha chanar sondesh is the sweet Bengali grandmothers make at home for special guests, a mark of genuine hospitality. Handmade daily at Noni Sweets, delivered to Gulshan and Banani, Dhaka.
